Dealing with Spam?

I'm not really sure if this is in the right forum or not, but I figured I'd give it a shot.  I just recently got my first SMF board up and running and its been going great so far.  However, I've gotten a few spam posts in some of the boards that are supposed to be accessible by registered members only.  The accounts seem to be guest accounts.  I'm not quite sure how they're getting in there.  I banned the first spambot's IP address yesterday and then found a new one when I took a look at my forum just now.

Any tips or tricks on how to deal with this sort of thing?
