Hi, I'm new around here, but very impressed with SMF.
I particularly like the package manager and its ease / simplicity in use.

I see from these forums that there is much mention of themes and SNF releases, but I am unsure of how specific themes and the point releases are?

So what will work and what will break and what will be ok in the next release?

Is there a table of themes and the releases they work and are stable in?
Will a next release like 1.1 still be stable with these "older" themes?

I guess what I'm not sure of is how independent the structure of SMF is from its style and design. I can certainly design buttons etc. but I don't know if I'm able to survive the upgrades and keep an active forum alive and stable.

Thanks for reading this and I look forward to your thoughts.

Euan,

We do our best not to change *too* much of the themes underlying systems between versions. For example, a theme for 1.0.5 will probably pretty much work with 1.1 - it might needs a couple of line changes. That said it depends on how detailed the theme is. For example, if your theme only changes the colours and the main layout (index.template.php) the changes are it will work without modification - or at least no more than a line or two. If you make a theme which changes the Profile template then I'm afraid the changes would be much more drastic.

Hope this gives you at least a little bit of an idea.
I'm only a half geek really...
