Hi

I am new to SM, am interested in setting up a professional forum and have two questions concerning spam and advert:
1) will registered users of the forum be sent any kind of spam or advert/are their email addresses an easy target for spam/advert through registration with the forum?
2) I do not currently see any advert on the test forum I set up - so why would I pay extra for removal of advert? Do adverts only show up some time later?

Thanks for your help!

1. You run the forum and you can hide the email addresses for your users from public. So no, they won't be sent any spam or advert while you are in control of the forum.
2. There are no forced adverts by SMF. You don't have to do anything at all about it.

Are you maybe referring to your hosting package ?

If you have gone down the "Free" hosting package road, then they will in all probability place adverts on your forum, over which you will have no control.

They will often remove them for a price  :o

To be honest paid hosting isn't expensive and offers a far better service, I personally pay £4.50/month.
