help with smiley,header

Can any one tell me how to add lot of smiley in my forum am using default theme...and i want to change or add header.
Am having lot of animated smiley i dont want the package i want to add them single by single only...

And like vbulltein can i change the images in like newpost ,no new post ,locked forum.
I want to add different images in that place
