Hello there! I have never used SMF before, and I am currently seeking for a nice forum software.
After an epic fail with phpBB3, I have decided to come and take a look at SMF, since everyone's comments are mostly positive :)

Well, I am wondering a few basic newcomer things, can you help me?
If a modification I want doesn't include my forum's version in its compatibility list, it is definitively a no for my forum?

Has anyone used the one-click installer offered by GoDaddy? Had any problems?

Normally I would ask more things but after so many attempts with phpBB3 I got some experience... debugging...

Correct. Although v2.x mods will generally work with other v2.x versions, if you use emulation, when you install them.

V2.x mods will NOT work with SMF v1.x and vice-versa.

I wouldn't use Godaddy, if they paid me to. :(

My understanding is that many 1.1.x mods will work on later versions of 1.1, as their compatibility lists merely haven't been updated in a while. However, it's on a case-by-case basis -- no guarantees that something that lists 1.1.9 as its latest compatible version will install on 1.1.12 (but usually it will). You can always ask in the mod's support, or just go ahead and try it (take backups first!).
