Are there codes that I can use within the news box or within posts to show the current post count and have it reflect the exact count?

No, it would require a modification of the news code to do so, but really, given that the post count is on the front page of the forum anyway, it's not like it's a really huge indication of things. Unless you have a lot of posts, it's probably not worth making it appear every page view...

Sort of, I was thinking overall for the site though.  As in have in the news or a thread, for example "Today's goal 456 of 1000posts" where the 456 is just showing the current posts the forum has changing as the posts do and the rest is plain text.
