I'm sure I must be missing the setting in the admin. panel, but there must be somewhere that you can enable URLs to automatically show up as links (without having to use the URL button) ...Yes? Where exactly is that?

IchBin™

It does this by default. www.google.com <-- no URL bbc code.

If its not you need to check "Automatically link posted URLs" in the Bulleting Board Code section of the ADmin panel.

Hmmm ... it is checked and not working. Any ideas?

IchBin™

In order to be picked up as a link, you have to have the www or the http:// as part of the link. If it's still a problem please show a link so we can see the page this is happening on in your site.

Here's an example ... http://1181drivers.com/smf/index.php?topic=19.new#new

Are you using the wysiwig editor or the regular editor? I can't produce your problem either way.

Any mods installed? Would you mind creating a test account to let me test with on your site? Feel free to PM me the info.

HiBuzz

Sure ... check your PMs. Thanks.

When i go to reply to your test topic, half of the BBC buttons don't even show on your editor. Do you have all the BBC options enabled so that one can use all those options?

No, I only have a few enabled. If this is automatic, why would it be necessary to enable "URL?" Funny thing is, I just went back to that message to try a post with URL button enabled, and lo and behold, the original post had a clickable link! Browser issue, maybe?

While we're on the subject, why is there no button for HTML? (It is enabled ... I see none here either) Also, should I not be able to insert an image without enabling that button by using BBC for HTML... [ HTML ] without the spaces, the using a regular <img> tag? That also didn't work. Does not manually putting in the BBC work even if a given button isn't enabled?

Appreciate your help.

Arantor

Not really surprisingly, the auto link just rewrites the item into a URL bbcode.

The reason why the html bbcode is not listed with a button as the only users who can use it are those with permission to administrate the forum - anyone who is not an admin will find the html bbcode is removed from their post when they try and use it.

If you're referring to using simple HTML, they just post simple HTML straight in, not inside any bbcode.

As far as I know, the img HTML will be rewritten to using the img bbcode, so generally you're best leaving the bbcode on.

HiBuzz

You've been very helpful. Thank you so much. Cheers.

HiBuzz

Unfortunately, problem is not solved. Members report that when they originally post URLs, they appear as text, not links. When they go back to the message later on, it's a link. What could be the problem?

Arantor

How, exactly, are they posting them?

Not really sure what you mean ... but by "copy and paste" from the address bar. Is that what you're asking? It seems if one closes out of that particular message then goes back to it, it is then a link. Initially it's just text.

Arantor

Then it's working exactly as it's supposed to, it's not supposed to become a link until after you hit the post button.

It's like bbcode and everything else, it's just regular text while you're typing, then you hit post and it's whatever it's supposed to be after that.

No ... it is not a link when you preview nor when you first post it. I have it set to return to topic after posting. It's not until after you click on another board or index, then return to that message until it appears as a link. It does not happen every time, which makes it all the more curious.

Arantor

What mods do you have?

I can't see any reason why that should be the case...

HiBuzz

No mods at all. I've tried it now about a dozen times and and it doesn't happen, but it did at first ... to me and a couple of other posters. I'll get them to post a couple of links and see how it behaves for them.

IchBin™

Well I just logged in with the test account you sent me. I did a preview of a link, and it worked fine. I then did the post to your same topic above and did not see the problem you are reporting.

I'm actually wondering if the posts were cached initially, but it seems like it's working now.
