Hi i recently switched to SMF from phpbb because i loved it. My forum is under test over here smf.deeptechtons.net [nofollow] and have pretty urls installed. I see strange files on my disk something like
index.php~
settings.template.php~
are these normal files? or is it backed up file.
These files are requestable by browser and they show the code in them , am i compromised?

Illori

those are the backup version of the file, they are created when a file is edited and saved. they should not show up with code when called from a browser.

deeptechtons

but they do could u try with this file and confirm smf.deeptechtons.net/Sources/Admin.php~ [nofollow] what do i do to hide them or not to backup when file is edited

Illori

you can safely delete those files.

Hi, you can disable this feature also.

Admin Cp > Packages > Options > Create Backup versions of replaced files with a tilde (~) on the end of their names.

If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer. If that fails, read the manual.
