When I tried to register on the site I was met with a message saying "Unable to save captcha-image." and no way of submitting the request... or even telling them there was an issue!!

How can I continue? I have the problem above...

It sounds as though you are having a difficult time, possibly at http://www.projecthoneypot.org.

Unfortunately, I don't think SimpleMachines.org is going to be able to help you fix the problem they seem to be having with CAPTCHA on their forms.

You could try posting to the project honeypot mod support thread (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=314425.0) or even contacting the mod author (from http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1849).

I hope you can help alert them to their problem.

I misunderstood your question. They had issues with the site yesterday, and maybe they are still sorting it out. Give it some time and try it again.
