Alright i tried installing a mod manually and found out it didn't work so I deleted and tried uploading the backup for my forum.. Well the backup ended up only being a sql database backup and now I've lost everything.. Is there anyway I can get my forum back or am I doomed?

kat

Do you have any other mods installed?

Ryoux0

I did but everythings gone.. Once the code wouldn't work I deleted everything and tried uploading a back up..

kat

Ah...

Let me get this straight, just in case...

The SMF files. Are they on your site?

Ryoux0

Nope everything is gone... i tried reinstalling SMF so that way i could just restore the SQL database but it won't work.

kat

Try just dearchiving the files from the install archive/package and uploading everything to your site.

Thing is, if you deleted Settings.php, you deleted all the information you need, to get the software to connect with the database.

So, once you've done the first thing I mentioned, you'll need to run this:

http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=663

That should give you a vigin forum, with your members and posts intact.

Ryoux0

I did that but its not working.. it keeps saying theres a server error

Illori

please post the exact error message.

Ryoux0

Sorry

The requested URL /index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

kat

You tried Repair_Settings.php?

Ryoux0

Yeah and it still didn't work..

kat

Repair_Settings didn't work? Or, the forum, still?

Ryoux0

When I type in my url all that comes up are the files in my root folder

www.therpuniverse.com [nofollow]

kat

That's because index.php isn't there.

Or, if it is, it's read-protected.

You didn't use Filezilla, by any chance, did you?

Ryoux0

I don't  use FTP i have a cpanel that I upload everything to..

kat

Oh... Good luck, with that.

I find that way unbearably tedious.

Is index.php there?

If so, is it read-enabled?

Ryoux0

Yeah i even changed the permission on it.. now theres a 500 internal server error

kat

Hmmm...

As I can see this:

http://www.therpuniverse.com/agreement.txt

I have to assume that the  rest of the files are OK.

I'm stumped.

All I can do, is offer to take a look at your site, for you.

Problem is, I'd need FTP access, to do that.

If you read this:

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=87130.0

and you're OK with it, can you PM me the login details for FTP?

It'll have to be tomorrow, now, though, coz it's nearly sex bed time, here. ;)

Ryoux0

my other admin and myself have decided just to start over.. He wanted to try a homepage and wwe could never get it to work before so now we can lol

kat

Every cloud has a silver lining, ay? ;)
