Please sir, I beg of you.  Can we nuke the radios and go with a one click solution?

if you are looking for a mod for your specific forum please post in the mod request board.

You'll need to explain what you mean, too, I suspect.

I read your post and thought...

Arantor

It means poll voting that updates immediately, and that you just press a single button for it, no selecting a radiio button and pressing vote.

Would be a problem on low bandwidth setups and clients without JavaScript.

kat

No multiple choices, then.

It'll also mean more wrong clicks, I'd imagine.

Each to their own. ;)

Stigmartyr

Yes - as Arantor said.  I will create one in the mod requests board.  There should be no reason why polling in SMF should not be ajax driven.

If you want content engagement on a better conversion rate it's the way to go.  People are lazy clickers.

actually, there are a lot of reasons why the polls should not be AJAX.   Multiple choices is one of them...  the option to change your mind before submitting is another.

There are a lot of things which could benefit from JQuery and Ajax...    polls are not one of them.

You know how when you see those FB recommend buttons you can like or unlike them.  I mean I'm not the world's best UI expert but I think we can do better than radio buttons is all.

Kindred

but polls are nothing like the "like/unlike" button.   Polls are "think about this and make a choice" sometimes, "make multiple choices"

therefore, Ajax really is not appropriate for polls. Radio buttons or checkboxes are.

I agree it doesn't seem appropriate at all, to use Ajax for polls choices. The reasons above are already enough, IMHO: multiple choice polls handling, and changing your mind (including in multiple choice polls), as not all polls are set up with the option to remove one's vote.

Perhaps you have in mind some limited subset of polls, that you assume they'd be like a "like" button... which is why a mod may be better anyway for your forum.
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.
