install and the use of MySQl <---Optional???

i just realized when i install the smf it asks me if i want to use MySQL instead of http saved files. i was wondering if i can in any moment save the data into the server instead of using database?
what would be the implications of doing this when now i have at least 7mb of data?

No, MySQL is not optional.  There is simply an option to save session data in the database or in files.
