Hi

I have moved a forum to a new web host but the forum appears to be broken. The migration was carried out by the new host and was from one CPanel account to another. However, the new forum returns a 500 Internal server error. I have checked permissions on the files and they are all fine.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks.

Oldiesmann

Look at your server's error log (login to CPanel and click on "Error Log") and see if you have any more information (probably something like "Premature end of script headers: /home/you/public_html/smf/index.php" or similar).

Doh! Why didn't I think of that?  :-X

Yes it is.

Thanks Oldiesmann.

So... what do I do now?

Oldiesmann

Re-upload index.php. It probably didn't get uploaded properly.

Thanks. My host is retrying the transfer again, so we shall see.

Thanks again for your help, Oldiesmann

Hmmm. They've transferred the site again, but still the same errors.

The index.php file seems to be intact. I uploaded a copy anyway, but it hasn't helped... :(

The index.php? It's 777 currently.

I'll chmod all the other files to 755 and see what happens.

Hmmmm. Some of the files in "Sources" give me errors when I try to chmod them?

destalk

OK. Host has sorted the permissions issues and the forum is up and running.

Phew!  :P

What should the file permissions in each directory be out of interest - (I'm sure there is a link to this somewhere?)

Thanks for your help.  :)

[Unknown]

Why chmod 777 is NOT a security risk

Most of the files only need to be 644, except attachments, Settings.php, agreement.txt, Packages... not many.

Thanks. That's also the link I was looking for.
