sometime ago I developed Mongolian language files for smf. Now I want to give it to SMF.

I translated smf texts related to web users. But admin files are not translated completely since for admin, in my opinion at that time,  it was better to have those backdoor jargons like "install package", " server configuration" etc in english. Simply because I did not have time, left them.  But I translated other files so that smf based forum user sees -from the outside - every text, buttons in Mongolian.

I seem to lost translated files and luckily is left with a working copy of a website on the internet. I don't use SMF now.
Now how do I retrieve those files?

So I went to /themes/default/language/ and downloaded files. But all files seem to be in english. I don't see any language pack except english. yet the website appears with Mongolian buttons and commands, help instructions etc.  Any idea?

Hello there.

Have you tried to look at themes/your_theme/languages/ directory? There should be files named - filename.language.php, and those are the files that you're looking for.

Also, if you are interested in joining our translation team and help us translate smf into Mongolian, please let us know.

Regards.

We curently don't have any Mongolian translators though. If you would like to join please send me pm.

The link wouldn't help much though, as we can't see the exact location of your language files. It should be in themes/default/languages/, or if you use some custom theme in themes/custom-theme/languages/. Note that there is located all language files english + custom ones, so please check the whole directory in order to find Mongolian filels.
File names should be:
Admin.english.php
Admin.mongolian.php
...and so on. Every file should have english and mongolian version

Let us know if that helped you, and if you still can't find those files the only way for us to help would be to have your ftp details though.

Regards.

1. get me in the Mongolian team, though I probably I won't have time to participate.
2. I checked themes/default/languages/ and there's only one language- english. No other language. No custom theme is installed. Apparently only default theme has language files. Files from here are all english. Yet i wonder how it shows me Mongolian output.

As far as i remember, i overwrote english language files. Mongolian texts were written inside the english language files, uploaded, overwriting original english language files.

3. how to give ftp to a folder, for you?

fussyman, if you want/can/have time to help about translating you are more than welcome to join our Translation team.
About your problem - did you checked throught those .english.php files to see if there is actually english or mongolian text?

You can make a new ftp account (if you have permissions to do so) if you want, and just set it's base path to folder that you want.

Regards.

Quote from: fussyman on September 07, 2011, 05:10:04 AMAs far as i remember, i overwrote english language files. Mongolian texts were written inside the english language files, uploaded, overwriting original english language files.

So I was right about overwriting the English files.

Looking at the link you gave
- Site is in UTF-8
- Even the basic user help file is translated, as you pointed, only admin help is not fully translated.

You can FTP in your PC all files like *.english.php in /Themes/default/languages, make a zip and upload it here (I guess you have upload permission, Dzonny can confirm). Files should be renamed to *.mongolian-utf8.php and are for SMF 1.1. Could be a start base for SMF 2.0, extensive changes have been made.

You have switched to Joomla/Kunena in this site.

I totally understand your intension  to give your work so other Mongolians might use it. However, without someone responsible for Mongolian translation, it will be very difficult to make a proper use. Another Mongolian asked to join translators but is inactive for about a year now.

Ok, after a quick check i noticed that your paths is set to:
http://www.tuurgatnytuv.com/Themes/default
instead of:
http://tuurgatnytuv.com/old/Themes/default

So language files for /old forum is located at ../Themes/default/languages/ and not in ../old/Themes/default/languages/.
You should fix your paths by using repair_settings.php tool if you want to change language to english.

fussyman

Thank you Dzonny.

1. that folder is under a joomla-based website. yet anything smf is under "/old" folder. How i did this way, i can't remember. Did i tamper with coding? I'd be happy if you could explain.

2. now, how i upload the language files?

3. buttons need renaming?

1. I guess that your forum was firstly located in root, and that you moved it to /old directory. If i'm right, you just left some smf files at the originall location, so that's why your forum can pull languages out of there.
2. Just download languages directory from tuurgatnytuv.com/Themes/default/ and upload it to tuurgatnytuv.com/old/Themes/default/.
3. If you're using some theme which has some additional buttons then you will probably need to edit those images on your own.

fussyman

No, I asked about uploading in the sense agridoc said:

You can't do so though. As i said you can join translating team and use your previously translated work, but we can't just upload files that you send and share them in public whithout translator. So if you can help, you have to join our translating team firstly.

Regards.

I see that fussyman has permission to add attachments.

So, as the correct dir is found, he can do this

- FTP the contents of /images and /languages subdirs of correct /Themes/default in a dir in PC.
- Pack the contents of this dir, keeping dir structure.
- Attach the packed file here.

As Dzonny wrote, it can't be used to build an "official" translation if no Mongolian translator exists. However, it's a pitty for fussyman's work to be waisted, it might be used by some other Mongolian with SMF 1.1 and, when a Mongolian translator is found, be used as starting point.

I believe this is what fussyman has in mind.

PS. I will send a PM to fussyman with my email, to use it in case of difficulty.
