Your request timed out. Please retry the request.
« on: November 06, 2011, 06:00:29 AM »
Users on my forum often get this error when posting or sending Pms:

Your request timed out. Please retry the request.

What do?

Either your script is taking too much time or server is slow and hence you are facing time out issues.
In index.php, somewhere at start you can add :
Code: [Select]
ini_set('max_execution_time', 240);And see if it goes aways, though its temporary work around, rather check your server performance with your script.. may be you have lots of mods installed or you have big forum ?

1 mod (Aeva) and ~3000 posts with 20-50 online at a time.

What exactly will that do and where should I put it in the index file?

Code: [Select]
ini_set('max_execution_time', 240);

keep in mind that not all servers allow users to override php.ini so that line may have no affect for the user, but they may be able to ask their host to modify their php.ini file.

Yes, illori is right, however, with the stats you gave, I don't think its your board, either your server is over crowded or something with your host.

Can you post us link to your Status.php
Download it from here :

Your host certainly looks over crowded.
Also looks like he doesn't allow increasing script timeout modification via php.

Your best bet would be shifting your host!

BTW, whats your mod list ?

Just Aeva Lite.

The strange thing is that this error has only started occurring over the last day.

Can anyone offer a solution which does not involve switching host?

Ask your host that you have tiny forum but still you are facing such issue, or simply ask your host why their server loads are so high that your simple scripts are getting time outs.

It doesn't seem like they want to help, or that they even read my support ticket:

When reviewing this matter, we were unable to duplicate the issue as the website appears visible and navigational.
What specifically do I need to ask them to do, in terms of increasing timeout limits?

Edit: seems like my host has a wait_timeout: of 60 seconds which cannot be changed. If this is the case, why was it that before today I was able to spend longer than 60 seconds typing a post?

This is not a deliberate bump, I am just updating with new information

I have managed to update the max_input_time in my php.ini to 600 seconds yet the problem still continues.

Ask them to allow you to rewrite php.ini settings at your level , some hosts allow you to do so by maintaining a local php.ini your site root, though with limited leverage.

I have successfully edited the php.ini (as linked above) but that doesn't seem to have solved the problem.

That php.ini is of no use if your host is not configured to use it. Also, generally its not in website root, rather its in your account's.. off public access.

As my point of view, you can't do much unless your host is co-operative..and definitely thats not happening. And hence, no gain to discuss this, still if there is some way or anyone else know then wait for him.

As already discussed, oversellers like Godaddy / Hostgator etc are not suitable if your forum starts growing. Certainly host issue, try following solutions given here and see if it helps.

Not sure if it is the same as your issue Vlada87, but the OP is on shared hosting with approximately 723 other sites.  I would definitely say that is on an oversold host.  As was stated previously in this topic there is not much help we can give with an oversold host.  Your best bet is to change host.

As this is an old topic, I am marking it as solved.
