Recounting postcounts?

The "recount forum totals and statistics" or whatever it is apparently doesn't do this.

Over the last few years Members have had their postcounts manually edited to add or remove posts from the postcount (from their field in the profile).  I know I've done it to my own account for about 2000 posts.
Is there a simple solution to fixing this so all post counts reflect accurately or would it be a matter of running a sql query to count all posts in boards where post counts are counted and set the postcount of each user to the number of returned results?

I'd rather not do this an I'm hoping there is a less complicated solution.

edit: I did find a mod that does this for SMF 2.0 so if anything I can wait until we finally move everythng over.

As your topic is in 1.x board,so i suppose you are using 1.x branch,so there is also a mod for 1.x

Thanks. I'm on 1.1.15 so will try to see if I can get it working.  If not I can wait until we move to 2.0  which should be soon.
