Boards in the wrong place after an upgrade

I upgraded my 1.1.15 SMF to 2.0.2 yesterday. It went perfectly, but I've got a problem.

The Boards are all in the wrong order. I had one entitled Who we are in top spot, but now it's in the middle and no matter what I do, I cannot reorder them, they are all in the wrong places, but when I try to Modify, they just stubbornly sit in the same place!

How can I fix this?

Illori

in the admin panel, move one board up and back down it should fix it.

baldur2630

No, they refuse to move, I've tried moving them all over, but in the admin panel they are correct. The moment you click Home, there are back to where they were!

Illori

how do they refuse to move? have you edited a board and moved it from there?

baldur2630

Step by step!

1. Login as Admin
2. Click Admin -->Forum --> Boards --> Modify Boards
3. At the Top Board Called Who, Why What, followed by General Linux, followed by General Linux Modules etc.
4. Now Click Home
5. Now I see News, followed by General Linux Modules, followed by Novell NetWare.
6. I Select Admin -->Forum --> Boards --> Modify Boards
7. I click Modify on the Novell Netware Board
8. I select In First Place and Click Modify
9. The Board Moves to the top.
10. I click Home
11. Now I see News, followed by General Linux Modules, followed by Novell NetWare.

Nothing has changed and no matter what I move to where it moves in the Admin --> Forum --> Boards but the moment I go to Home, I am right back where I started.

I can make you a movie if it helps

Is this still an issue? We've seen cases where the board order can be temporarily wrong after an upgrade, but normally changing it once, and then moving them back fixes it for good.

Yes, it is still an issue. I've tried everything recommended several times and it stays the same. None of the Boards will move at all. I did give you a step by step of what I did in a previous post, I've tried this several times. I've tried reordering them bottom to top, but nothing changes.

Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen

OK then, is the wrong order a random one, or the original but just stuck or ordered alphabetically or something?
Also, have you tried with more than one browser or with a different theme?

They seem to be random.

I have tried the browsers IE, Firefox, Chrome, Opera - No change.

I've always stayed with the default template so far. Makes life easier for me.

You can have a look if you like. I'll have to create you an account. I disabled Registration. Too many would-be hackers. I was giving advice for free, but until they stop hacking, it's PRIVATE. Everyone loses (except me - I just save a lot of time).

Lol don't be put off by alot of has been's or would be's most people expect a thank you when giving advise or sharing something...
Well most people just browse the internet take what they find and post nothing.. Only a few stop to thank and actually contribute back..
Doesn't mean they are not thankful for the information.. Its what makes the internet a useful resource today :) :) :)

I'm sorry, that's not the point. It was a site offering FREE technical support (that you wouldn't find anywhere else, quite hi-tech, specialized stuff). I also have a website which GIVES away FREE music (my own guitar music), yet every day I get dozens of morons trying to deface it and steal (free) music from it along with email addresses and anything else the evil B*****S can find.

I'm just sick of these idiots. Everyone sits back and regards it as something that happens and will never go away. I don't. I'm not prepared to put up with it, so I make everything private now and anyone wants to join the Forums. They can ASK me and God help them if they EVER try to put junk on it! As I said, everyone suffers except me. When enough people learn to start complaining to governments VOCIFEROUSLY enough, maybe one day they will make it a VERY serious offence and start locking people up for many years. I report EVERY spam mail which gets past my Blacklists and EVERY hacking attempt

The Yanks complain, but I get hundreds of would-be hackers from the USA. So far the only two countries which don't give me hacker problems are South Africa and the UK. The worst are the Middle East, Turkey, Morocco and India. They have been Geo-Banned on EVERYTHING

Anyway, you could always edit the board order at database level..
If you have phpmyadmin you can log into that and go into this table.. smf_boards ( If you use the smf prefix ) then look for this row
board_order

You can edit each board and change the order this way.. Maybe something broken but you could always put them together and see if it fixes your problem with moving them aswell.

Can you humour me, and check to see if they really are random, or for example ordered by board ID. ( The number in the link to the board - for example 147 in http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=147.0 )
I'm just trying to see if we can find any logic in this, because a random stuck order shouldn't really be possible to begin with.
There has to be some logic in how it is arranging them IMO.

Sorry it took so long, been busy!

The first Board showing is #5. followed by 6, 15, 16,31,34,38,41.

The top board that was showing on the previous version was 17. Now it's way down.

If you are a mathematical genius, you may be able to see a logical progression, but I can't!

Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen

They would actually seem to be in order from the oldest (smallest) to the latest (largest), unless you still actually have the boards to fill the blanks like #1-#4?

Changing them via the database (phpMyAdmin) as aljo suggested should be a viable solution.

Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen

Yup, that should work - I'm just trying to hunt for the cause it's not working correctly.

can you verify the "type" for the table yourprefixhere_boards? it should be MyISAM you can check this using phpmyadmin or similar.
