Recent Topics opening new browser window

Hi people

I am setting up SMF v1.1 Beta 3.  The template I am using defaultXT (macvision) has the option of showing Recent Posts at the bottom section (Info Section) of the page.

First question - How can I replace Recent Posts with Recent Topics ?

Second question - How can I have each link open in a new browser window (target=_blank)?

Third question - I'm pretty sure from reading other postings that it's not possible to show Recent Topics in a threaded view - if it is I'd love to know how.

I have read lots of treads but mostly they talk of SSI which I don't think is applicable in this instance ?
