Pruning inactive members + upgrading to a newer version

Do you still need that mod? If not, get rid of it.

If yes, try to grab a new version of the mod at the mod site.

Also disable template evaluation as said earlier.

I think this is a very good advice. Only install the mods you really need. :)

Especially get rid of the ones that are causing errors when you don't need them. That always has been a good practice for me :P

It makes sure that you will see the exact error. I would recommend you updating to SMF 2.0.2 first though, I can't find the option in SMF 1.1

I still need to upgrade also.

Just want to ask if it will work by just installing a fresh version of SMF and just importing the database backup to the new SMF?

Nope, just make backups and overwrite all files with the large upgrade package of SMF 2.0.2. Also this should help you out:
