Mambo: looks cool, can do all kinds of thinks with it, pain in the @#$% to get integrated in with smf
MKPortal: Easy to  install and setup, integrates well with smf, very little support for smf in their support forums.
Simple Portal: Easy install and use, nice templates that work with it, not as many features.
Tiny Portal: In beta, newest beta seems real stable, all kinda of options with his blocks, cool templates to work with it.

Both are respected CMSs
As with any kind of software of this kind, you need to spend some time exploring the features and checking their respective support boards
Whether one is better than the other depends on your needs

There is currently no integration/bridge for drupal with smf, as far as I'm aware
There's one in the pipeline for xoops

Mambo has a CMS feature built in.  I highly recommend it :).

The One

Is integration with Drupal likely to come soon?
The problem is choice

i tryed a lot of CMS (mkportal, mambo, xoops, postnuke, phpnuke, ...) and agree to choose drupal. because drupal is very light, owerfull, stable,  admin and user friendly, and the best for community.
a lot of stable themes you can trye.  http://drupal.org/

now i am looking for a solution with smf.  :D

does anyone interest for drupal modules ?

Err, seems there's hubbub about a split within Mambo.

I currently have Mambo sites integrated with SMF using the bridge (it did take some work, but the guys here were very helpful).

I was just about to set up a brand new site with new versions of mambo and SMF, but now I'm not so sure Mambo is the way to go, as it's future is a bit shaky now.

So looks like I go investigate Drupal (for features) and MKPortal (for integration with SMF), as they seem the next most likely candidates.

*EDIT* Hmm, after reading about the poor support from Drupal devs, not sure I want to go that way either...

I am using Mambo just as a test, and it is really featured.  To bad there aren't any templates...

personally, i dont believe in portals. SSI is all you need...just a little more work, but you can make it exacly how you want.

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.
