Sorry if this is a stoopid question or in the wrong place but I'm not the most pooter literate chap in the world. I've got hosting and loaded SMF on ittoday but it's fried my brain a bit.
Anyhow, the first of many many questions is,,,, for now anyway.

'How do I change the registration agreement so any new members have to answer a couple of questions to register?'

Many thanks in advance  :)

kat

You're gonna slap yourself...

In the very root of your forum, you'll find "agreement.txt".

Guess what that is...? ;)

That's just a text file, though. If you look through the mod site, there may be something, there, that does what you want.

Thanks for that but I haven't got the foggiest and definitely cant write http stuff.

kat

Let me have  look around, to see if I can see anything.

Gimme a few months while. ;)

Which version of SMF are you on?

buggerlugs

Thanks, 1.1.11 I think. Once I get that sorted I will leave you alone a while,,,,,,,,,,,,fingers, toes, eyebrows crossed

This isn't exactly what you asked for.

But, it looks like it might do something similar.

Bugger. Cancel that. It's been removed. :(

OK... Just thinking out loud, here...

The only thing that I could find, was this:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2326

All that one does, is ask fr a reason for joining.

What I'm wondering, is whether it could be modified, so that it'll ask the question(s) that you want.

Maybe you could post in the mod's support topic http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=355011.0 to ask?

Upgrade to version 2, it is better and has the facility to add as many custom fields as you want to.

Blimey, now your confusing me. 1.1.11 was what the host site directed me to. How would I upgrade ?

JohnS

I don't think you can upgrade from 1.1.11 to 2 from the admin panel, though I may be wrong.

3 possible ways depending on your hosting

1. Your host control panel may have an installer like fantastico, installatron or softaculous or similar which will do the job for you. Some perfectionists don't like this method but always worked for me.

The other two require you to go to http://download.simplemachines.org/

2. Look down the page for webinstall, this is the best/easiest if it will work, but not on all servers.

3. If that does not work then you are down to a full install, download the package and upload all the files to your server in the same folder as the current installation.

Just remember my sig, before you attempt anything like that, buggerlugs!!

I'd better leave this tonight and have another look tomorrow. Thanks for now anyway  :)

I still haven't got a clue though  ;D

One step at a time for me will be hard enough so if I could just get the registration questions on there it would be a massive leap.

kat

The only thing is, your version's got a few security holes in it. 1.1.16 is the latest version in the 1.x line.

If you want a hand, doing that, gimme a yell and I'll try and sort you out. :)

(I don't charge).

You my friend are a star. The forum is already getting hammered with the spammers. See you tomorrow. Should I pm you, what's the etiquette ?

kat

Yeah, send a PM, tomorrow.

I'm guessing that you're on the civilised side of The Pond, too. That might make things a bit easier. ;)

We'll work something out.

I prefer the "Holding your hand whilst you do it" approach, coz you're likely to learn something, during the process, that way.

If that seems good, gimme a yell, in the morning. (Not too early!)
