Upgrading and Moving DIR

So long ago in a galaxy far far away....  I accidentally installed SMF directly into my website root.  So if you go to the site, www.ipmsorlando.com you will see our site is just a forum.  This wasn't the original idea but the club liked it and so it was left alone.  However, I still thought the forum should have resided in a /forum folder and a real "index.html" should give our users basic info before the forum.  Now cut to present day and people have decided I was right all along.

So here is what I am looking at doing.
1. Upgrading from 1.1.12 (updating to 1.1.16 is messing up...) to 2.02.  This way I have the latest and greatest
2. Moving the site into the /forum folder
3. Not losing anything, users, posts etc..

SO I did read the guide on upgrading and it is helpful.  If I were merely upgrading, I would probably only ask if the Users info is included in the database backup?  I'm not sure if it is and if not where is it to back it up also?  I'd hate to have to have everyone reregister, just not practical but I doubt such a thing is overlooked in the smf backup either, but better to ask than not know for certain.

The more difficult question, what's the best way to MOVE the site from root to /forum ??  I suppose there is more to it than just copying from root and pasting into /forum cause I tried that as a test, the second you click on a link for any category or on the home button you are returned to the forum in the root folder.

I was kinda hoping I can do a Clean install of smf 2.02 in the correct folder then upload my database and "POOF" it works.  I'm probably in fantasy land on that but hell, if the site died and I had to restore it with only the database, it would have to have a way?

So I know you guys and gals know SMF better than I.  What is my best course of action besides not installing the wrong place 2 years ago...

thanks for your help
you're awesome

"Poof!" isn't too far from the truth, mate!

Move everything, as you thought.

Dump your themes and mods, coz they won't work with v2.

Then, use this: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Repair_settings.php

to sort your paths out and all that stuff.

Once that's done, you can go for the upgrade.

Just remember my sig, before you start all this... ;)

I am attempting to give it the old college try...

I have backed up my site and my database to begin with.

I was attempting to remove the 2 modification packages I have installed and ran into these errors..

"Anti Bot: Unrecognizable Form"
Installing this package will perform the following actions:
   Type    Action    Description
1.    Execute Modification    -    Modification parse error
hit uninstall anyway and it says, "The package has been uninstalled, it should no longer take effect. "

"Simple Image Upload"
Installing this package will perform the following actions:
   Type    Action    Description
1.    Execute Modification    -    Modification parse error
2.    Delete File    ./addform.html
hit uninstall anyway and it says, "The package has been uninstalled, it should no longer take effect. "

yet they remain installed!  argh!

Ok, so I did some RTFM and manually removed the 2 offending mods and realized I had some dir permissions issues and fixed those as well.

Next for the move and upgrade attempt!

Praying to the internet! :o

Hello,
because my work is similar.

I have a SMF 2.0 RC3 on a ubuntu 8 machine, and I need to move the forum and upgrade to 2.0.2 on a new ubuntu 12.04 machine.

Which is the best way? I upgrade before moving, or I move before upgrade?
Could I move the 2.0 RC3 forum directly to 2.0.2?

Thanks for your help.
