I have uploaded smf and am on the first page of installing and i am having problems at the MySQL Server Settings. I enter my sever settings etc but then this comes up:

Cannot connect to the MySQL database server with the supplied data.

If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)
Click here to try this step again.

what do I do to fix this??

Check that you entered the correct information for your MySQL database including username and password. Sounds like either your password or database information entered in your "server settings" don't match with your database.

Everything was entered correctly, I did it over and over again, gave up then got some oneelse to try they gave up too!

Sounds like either you entered the wrong server/host for mysql, or mysql isn't configured properly, or mysql isn't installed/started.
