Hello all, I am so glad to have found an active community!

I am moving an entire site out of Joomla entirely, and need to convert my (((HUGE))) forum from Kunena to SMF. I have Kunena 2.*, but the converter listed on the downloads page is for 1.5? I am not sure if this is why I am having a problem, but it would make sense. I can't get past the first page of the converter, where you enter your directory info, and it is telling me the directories do not exist. I went to make sure everything was correct, and re-entered everything just to be certain, but same result.

I am not a php wiz, but I can get around my cpanel and phpMyAdmin well enough I think. Could someone please help me escape the bane that is Kunena?!

TYIA, please feel free to email me!! I am going to keep looking around the forum to see if I can find my answer.

I found that thread too, but thanks for posting. The converter in that linked thread is for K1.5 and K1.6, I need K2.0+. I think this is my problem.

ETA: My site uses JomSocial and Kunena 2.0.2. In another thread I saw someone suggest to point directly at kunena, so I also tried this using the K1.6 converter, but alas still no success.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
~Lex

 I am only seeing it for that Kunena version, sadly.  I know there's a way...

ThorstenE

There's currently no converter available for converting a kunena 2.0.x
Maybe the 1.6 converter (successfully konverted 1.7.2) may work:

Thorsten Eurich:

I don't suppose I could tempt you to work on one? I am an apt student, and more than willing to do the work, I just have no idea where to start. With a little bit of guidance (ok, a lot of guidance and some hand holding...) I would be more than willing to write and share a converter. There is nothing anywhere, for any platform that I have been able to find to get me out of this curse that is Joomla/Kunena.

Please, anyone reading, feel free to message me if anyone is interested.

Thank you for taking the time to read and suggest,
~Lex

MissLexie, did you try the converter referenced in my post? Do you get an error? If so please post the error message here..

Here is a screenshot of what happens:

Am I doing something incorrectly?

which version is your Joomla? 1.5 or 2.5?

MissLexie

2.5.

Everything on my system is 100% current and up to date, much to my dismay. It would have been much easier if everything was the old stuff, haha!

Thanks again for taking the time to look into this,

Hi!
I was at the same trouble (unable to find kunena settings).
Someone told me to put a simple configuration file in my kunena folder. I did it and it was succesfull!
So I attach this file: You have to download it, then open it with wordpad or notepad etc and change the "xxxxx" with your settings (database name and database prefix). Then upload this file to your kunena folder (/components/com_kunena).

Good luck.

MissLexie

Alsthom: That didn't work, but it could very well be a human error on my part. I got the same error again, saying:

Unable to find the settings for Kunena 1.5. Please double check the path and try again.

I also tried it with the script TE had cross posted from the other thread for 1.6, and got the same thing.

alsthom

Perhaps you are doing something wrong. :(
Can you tell me your database name of kunena and the prefix?

<?php
// Legacy configuration file
// If you're using Joomla 1.5 or newer, please add this file
// in your Fireboard/Kunena component directory, before running the converter

$mosConfig_db 'alexrows_maxmag';
$mosConfig_dbprefix 'maxmag_';

?>

Got all my db info from phpMyAdmin:

The configuration.php is in component/com_kunena, then I ran the converter and got the message as stated above. I hope I just fouled something up, and it works like a charm once you correct me!!

No this is how it was when I got the error of:

Unable to find the settings for Kunena 1.5. Please double check the path and try again.

I am pretty sure I have the correct path and have configuration.php in the right spot...

Strange.
This was my problem but it solved when I put that configuration file at public_html/components/com_kunena.
Check if you put it by mistake at public_html/administrator/components/com_kunena. I did that mistake at first time I tryied the convertion.
One idea is to clear your browser cache or something like that and then try again. (maybe this is silly idea but I can't think anything else...)
Good luck!

I checked, it is not in admin.

So I cleared my cache, and got a new error instead! See image below.

However, when I tried it again (without clearing cache again), I got the original error.

Why can nothing be easy? Hahaha!
