Branko.

In SMF 2.1>EmailTemplates.php related with position of variable {REALNAME}
Currently is
Your registration request at {FORUMNAME} has been received, {REALNAME}.

Should be like this?
{REALNAME}, your registration request at {FORUMNAME} has been received.
Strong people don't put others down, they lift them up.
A clever person solves a problem. A wise person avoids it.

Dzonny

Both seems to be accurate. I would prefer second one myself though...

Shambles

If the second were to be used you might have to introduce an addressing term to formalise the grammar:

Dear Shambles, your registration request at {FORUMNAME} has been received.

Hello Shambles, your registration request at {FORUMNAME} has been received.

Felicitations Shambles, your registration request at {FORUMNAME} has been received.

Whereas the first does not require formalising, as by inference it confers finality.

Your registration request at {FORUMNAME} has been received, Shambles.

Disclaimer: the above statements of preference are all IMHO, FYI :)

MrPhil

Was the original question "which form is better English grammar?" Personally, I would find the first form somewhat abrupt and cold (even brutal!), but as @Shambles points out, you need a salutation of some sort (Mr., Dear, etc.) to smooth out the second form and make it less abrupt.

Or was the question about a code error?

Matthew K.

MrPhil - He was talking about the position of {REALNAME}, not a coding error.

emanuele

So:

Hello {REALNAME}, your registration request at {FORUMNAME} has been received.

Should work, right?

Take a peek at what I'm doing! ;D
