The instructions say "Open your favorite browser and browse to http://www.yourdomain.tld/forum//upgrade.php I am too dense to to follow this.  It doesn't even make sense to me that I can "browse" to a password protected area on the server

IF:
my host is http://smfhost.com (no www)
my forum is XYZ
I go to the forum by: http://xyz.smfhost.com
when I FTP to my files, I am at SMFhost\public_html

Question: Then what do I put in my browser address bar for "yourdomain.tld" and"forum"

Thanks so much.  I cannot afford to be figuring this out in the middle of an upgrade. I would have never gotten that because of the "/".  To me that means another step down in a heiracle structure or path.  Maybe I am too entrenched in Windows, Novell, and DOS

??? why is yourdomain.tld shown as separated from forum by a "/"  like> yourdomain.tld/forum/ ?

don't I have to put "public_html"  somewhere in the path since that is where my upgrade.php file will be residing?

That's just an example. If you installed your forum in a directory called "forum", and didn't have a subdomain as you do, you would go to http://www.yourdomain.tld/forum/

The reason the last "/" is on there is because some ancient browsers aren't smart enough to look for a directory called "forum" when you type http://www.yourdomain.tld (they think it means to look for a file called forum, which of course doesn't exist).

You don't have to put "public_html" anywhere in the URL, because the server already knows that public_html is your root directory (you can't access anything outside of that directory from your browser).

Thanks so much Oldiesmann.  My mind goes wacko when I don't understand why I am doing something.  I find it is harder to get rid of preconceived ideas than it is to learn from scratch.

I want you to know that we know, none of this would be possible without people like you.  Thanks!!!
