Installation directory still writable?

At the end of the installation a message notes that that the 'installation directory is writable".  What exactly must be done at this point?  At the beginning I chmod'ed a number of directories/files to 0777.  So, what do I undo?

chmod SMF's directory to 755 (that way it'll only be writable by you).
