Hello,

Can someone tell me how to put the SMF Forum on my index page?  The forum works fine I would just like to make it the main page of my website.  I know I have the option of doing a link but I would rather it be an automatic redirect.  Any help would be aprreciated.

Thanks

Owdy

Move your files from http://www.sitecom/smf/ to http://www.site.com/ . After that, run repair_settings.php. Thats it :)

What is repair_settings.php?

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://www.you.com/forum/index.php" />

You can change the values as needed - 0 indicates the number of seconds to wait before redirecting them and the url is the url to send them to.

Thanks, works perfect.  I ran the repair_settings.php and there were two things that did not show up.  One was the database on/off and the other was Smileys Directory.  What should the Smileys Directory be?

Thanks,

Bob

You're using an old version of SMF, aren't you?

Anyway, you can use the recommended values.

The version I got with a godaddy hosting account.  Do you think I should update?  The line is blank for smiley's directory.

[Unknown]

Yes, I'm afraid the version they offer is much older than the current, and has a few bugs.  I would strongly suggest using SMF 1.0.5.

I uprgraded to .5 and now the forum doesn't run.  I must have a file misplaced.  There is just a blank front page.  Any ideas what I should look for.  I downloaded the upgrade, unzipped it and placed it in the root directory.

Thanks,

Did you run upgrade.php?  Can you post or pm me with a link?

I have a big mess now.  Here is the link.

I did the second option by downloading the file and placing the files in the root directory.

No, I mean a link to your forum, not the topic here about SMF 1.0.5.

run that upgrade.php, after that, run repair_settings again. Click all those blue links and save. Check also that your other details are correct.

Where do I find a value for MySQL server?

I changed this to local host and now I get an error

Some settings are not being shown because the MySQL connection information is incorrect.

Errors on upgrade.php now

Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/content/a/u/t/autorace/html/upgrade.php on line 59

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/content/a/u/t/autorace/html/upgrade.php on line 59

Your MySQL Database Info is wrong. Change those values. Ask your host what they are.
Godaddy isnt using localhost if i remember right.

OK, I fixed the mysql settings, but the forum still doesn't work.  I don't know if it is because I have the SMF files not in a folder but in the root directory and the uprade was looking for domain/smf/upgade and not domain/upgrade.  I am tempted to delete it all and startover.  The godaddy version of smf I don't believe shows an option to click on an upgrade.

I switched everything back to the old version and it is working again.  I would still like to upgrade to the newer version.  I deleted all the update files so I can start fresh.
