Looks like a great idea, real nice.

But I guess some Terms of use are more than worthy to add to the mod description as well and there is no real explaining of the relation between the needed additional software and the mod provided here.

So it's maybe good to take a good look at codologic.com as well. Not sure about the SMF policy in such matters.

Ive install for testing, and now want to remove. what should i do after i uninstall the SMF package? delete the freichat directory and...?

Hi,

For removing everything related to freichat :

1. Uninstall/remove the freichat SMF package.
2. Delete all frei_* tables [You can get the list of freichat tables from freichat/installation/install.sql]
3. Delete the freichat directory .

But basically removing the smf package should be enough.

Spend the day trying to get this to work.  Nothing.  Nada.  After numerous installs and re-installs, no chat window anywhere.   I see the php code, I see the database entries, just does not work.

I figure it's scamware.  Pay money if you want a version that might work.

I am sorry that you are having some trouble. Did you install freichat first, per the mod instructions?

Yes.  I also found that everything in the index.template.php after around line 200 was missing, so just opening and saving that file gave me a parse error. I made a fresh install and copied the code across (Prior admins on the site had installed packages previously which may have modified the file, so I didn't replace it in it's entirety. I made sure there were no errors in that file before installing freichat and the mod. It was during an attempt to manually add the mod that I noticed the truncated file.

The mod makes changes to the sourcedir/Load.php file , so it should not be related to freichat .
If you can provide us with your website address + test account , we may be able to identify your problem .

Couple of things after installing the free version
1. In the chat room how can I disable avatars? I got it to work in regular person to person chat but not the chat rooms
2. Where can the user disable if they don't want to participate in chat or see the chat boxes? EDIT - found the way to turn off the chat for that single instance. How can offline be set permanently? Some users love it others just want it blocked.

I installed both.  The server install first, and then the mod.  Obviously, I didn't do something correctly.  But I can't figure out what it was?

Works great for the most part but does have some issues. I'm running SMF 2.0.5 currently.
Issues I encountered:

1. slows page response times on every page and is very noticeable, (a bit better when avatars are turned off).
2. custom/uploaded avatars don't seem to be picked up for display (installed avatars seem to work fine, but affect performance per #1)
3. chat sounds do not work

Other than that, starting from the codologic website, the free version install went off without a hitch. T
his is a very nice chat addition to SMF. If it could be less intrusive on load times it would be perfect.

I like it, but may have to remove simply due to the page response time issues unfortunately.

i installed this Chat and the MOD on SMF 2.05 and SimplePortal, but i cant see anything. Get no Error.
I dont need what to do because i dont use the Default Theme.

Is there anything to do that i can use this Chat in my Community or is some Code use in custom Themes?

Same here. I accessed forumurl/freichat/installation/ and it was a blank page. I installed the mod through package manager and nothing shows.
This thread seems dead and without support.

Can someone please recommend a chat software which I won´t run into these unnecessary headaches with.

as for the page load time, FreiChat is loaded after the page is fully loaded.
if anyone has a live demo, I would personally help in getting it fixed.

and if possible, always use the 'comet' option in the backend, it not only improves the messaging speed but also lowers the request overhead.

for the blank page issue, this is mainly and always due to wrong permissions, you might want to check what permission does SMF PHP files currently use and copy those permissions over to the files in the freichat folder.

General Installation Procedure:
1. Download both the plugin and freichat(from http://codologic.com [nofollow])
2. Install freichat (you will also be given a link to download the plugin at the end of the installation)
3. install plugin in SMF


There is an old video tutorial you might want to see, it was made for joomla+Freichat 7, but the installation procedure is almost the same for both,

PHP files usually needs permissions like 755 or 644.
you just have to copy the permissions that you have for the inde.php file of SMF.

if anyone has trouble installing, please refer to your server error log. you will understand what kind of permissions are actually required.
or else look at the existing PHP files that are running smoothly.

go to the server root directory, and see the permission of the PHP files (usually 644) and directories(usually 755)
copy the same permission to the files and folders inside freichat(including itself) directory.

Make sure you change the permissions of all files and not just folders to 0755 .

after i've chmod775 eveything inside due to that the installer is by default chmod777, the 505 error has gone. why not make the installer by default is everything chmod775?

My problem is, I have SMF 1.1.19 installed, it says its not compatible. The mod site says it is compatible with SMF 1.1.18, I tried to look on the parse and all 1.1x says its not compatible. while from the installer, I have to choose between versions of SMF(1.1x/2.0x) ?

Hello,

While testing with the free install we're finding some sort of bug, that makes the chat doesn't work properly.

When we're trying to chat at the big chat, we aren't  able to find the textbox to write your message in. There's no textbox and no cursor.

When one of us was alone in a channel there was somehow a textbox, but when there are more people it was gone. And there was only one person who experienced this.

Please us as soon as you can.

Hello, I install free version of freichat, everythink works great, but page-load is quite slow.

I understand that this mod is heavy, but I want to ask if it solves a paid version, cause in the pricing table has an item: "Aggressive Caching".

Did it solve me problem with slow load? When I click on some sub-forum or topic, browser get white for cca 0,7s, and after page is loaded with content.

We have recently installed Freichat on our Forums, which is SMF 2.1.2 and the Theme we're using is called GariP, just to have it out here if that information is needed.

We ended up having some issues after installing the mod and we also installed the module for SMF after installing the chat first we installed the module for SMF.

First issue we have is that the users don't show up online with their names, only as guests(when we disable guests it says nobody is online).after we put in the code that is given at the end of the installation in index.template.php we get an error and the whole site crashes. How can we solve this issue?

Then the next issue we have is, that we're not able to delete any chatrooms, and can't make any new chatrooms either, which was possible before. How can we delete the already existing chatrooms and make new chatrooms?

the mod has not been updated since 2.0.4 -- it should still work on 2.0.x -- but there is a good chance that it won't work in 2.1.x
