2.0.4 Subscription expiration warning..

Is there a way to have it not only send an email to the member, but to generate a pop-up when they log in or send them a PM automatically that their subscriptions are expiring?

Actually this could be added to the alerts system for 2.1. Tracked as https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF2.1/issues/1330 so we do it. (And moving to Accepted)
