Strange new symbol in front of £ and copyright © at foot of pages

OK we are on the new database and everthing is transfered and working.
We are also on the new server (LINUX as before)

What I am seeing on my old forum posts are   before the ©  symbol at the foot of the pages and before a £ sign.
Ie £25,000 for example.  When I delete the    I get a question mark ? showinginstead of £.  Trying to re edit the £ just results in the question mark.

When typing an £ in new posts all that gets diepayed is the ?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, you should always back up your database, especially when change to new host or upgrade your forum!
