Hi guy's

how can i go about allowing upload of images via pc without having to use the attachments mod or external image host?  my members just can't get their head around the attachment setup, nor do they want to use remote host's, so how can we go about uploading straight from pc within a post? TIA

You have some dilemmas to deal with when it comes to allowing users to upload directly into a post as there is the physical space requirement for storing image files to consider, do you give your users ftp access to your site? not me... but there are modules available to allow users to upload securely and THEN they, the module worth its salt, provides a direct link to the image so the user can embed it into the posts using the already familiar BBC tags...

no that's not what i'm after Bob, i have unlimited space so uploading to server is no issue, but would be nice if there was an option in post screen to click upload image and it will upload and automatically wrap in image tags within the post?

Illori

i doubt that would ever happen or exist. not to mention that unlimited space does not exist either. [there is always a limit]

mmm  that's a shame, the problem with SMF... so limited and very basic, and not enough developing, might have to move across to IPB i think, cost's money but way better than any other forum software available... and being updated and developed all the time

rotfl...    SMF is one of the LEAST limited softwares I have ever dealt with.

Just because it doesn't do what you think you want, you instantly call it "limited"
despite the fact that you never even bothered to LOOK at the mods (of which I found a half dozen in 5 minutes)

and BTW: There are several mods that will do something along those lines.
1- aeva -- allows uploading to the gallery directly from the post screen
2- I believe coppermine allows something similar
3- I'd be surprised if "SMF Gallery" did not also allow it.

No.. Ipb is a paid software. Invision power board....

And I have no idea what you mean, 2greedy...

Smf isn't a patch on ipb?
What is that supposed to mean?

Smf is an awesome software in and of itself, with a large library of possible add ones to customize your site beyond the simple installation.

NOT to mention that the paid software available for SMF is awesome as well, I just got live audio/video streaming and it is being well received by all who happen upon it...

As far as free software I have to agree that SMF has a huge library of themes and mods. What the OP needs to realize is that you are trying to compare something free to paid, and paid it's always better. Just look at VB :P
Check out this great sites.

My members also complain about the posting pictures issue. I use coppermine and as far as I know there is no upload feature with re-sizing capabilities. If there is a mod that allows someone to post am image within a post and auto re-size I would gladly pay for it.

As for SMF being limited, It would would be difficult to find another message board software that has this many features and options. This is a very rich product.

If anyone knows of an upload to post product that re sizes please email me and I will gladly pay for it.

Kindred

Wait, when did resizing become part of the discussion?   We were asked about posting images directly into a post... And I posted a series of mods that allow exactly that.
