Hello!
I want to reinstall my forum, because there are too many errors and corupt files.

I have searched this forum and found several topics about it. Before I start the prosess I want to know if this is the correct way to do it:

1. Backup all files and database.
2. Delete all files from server.
3. Upload new SMF-files.
4. Delete settings.php
5. Upload settings.php from my backup.
6. Upload attachments and avatars.
7. Install mods.

With this method I keep the database and get new fresh files.

Is this a safe and correct way to do it?

Anyway, my usual recommendation is:
* Backup
* Delete all files and folders *EXCEPT*
  - avatars
  - attachments
  - Smileys (if you have custom smileys sets)
  - Settings.php
  - Settings_back.php
* Load the Large Upgrade Package, skipping every existing file. Do not overwrite anything (as you already deleted everything non-important) and do not upload the files upgrade*
* Load repair_settings.php What is repair_settings.php? and use the button on the bottom of the page to remove hooks.
* Delete repair_settings.

Txaram! :)

Thank you!
Is it anything wrong with the method I mentioned? For me it seems a little bit easier.

In addition to my first post I should upload backup of my smiley folder and settings_bak.php  (or is it settings_back.php?)

margarett

Should work, yes ;)

Oh, and it's Settings_bak.php, sorry :)
