Dear all you must get sick of this

I have Followed everything I think to the letter

Upload SMF files to a /forum folder (in the main root)
I have turned on "MYSLQ and PHPmyadmin"

I then went to wwwdotmyplace dot xxx/forum/install.php
and all I get is error 404

host is via BT any clues would be epic

Did you upload the files in your main root as in /, or /www or /public_html?

I up loaded them to
main root /forum/

In the directory which is one up (so /forum without the forum part, /), is there a directory named "www" or "public_html"?

the Tree is
/ (Root)
   /Forum
   /Public (Where site is stored)

I think you already  gave yourself the answer

Move your /forum directory to /Public/forum.
