How do I make child boards look like this?

The Child themes on this board are nicely spaced apart and look good. When ever I do child boards they are crammed together in a list that does not look good at all.

Unfortunately not able to get it to work. Not sure what I am doing wrong, or if it is compatible with the latest smf..looks like what I am looking for from the screen shots so will try again.
