Greetings Support and thank you for all of your help
so far.
I have downloaded the upgrade:
smf_2-0-8_install (4).zip  size 2615kb
I have read all of the instructions:
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading
I have made a host level backup of both the files and database from cPanel
I have changed file and folder permissions, except for the zip file which is 775
I have read through this thread for any possible issues I may encounter
I have uninstalled all packages and placed them in a backup folder
I am about to press the button, I just wanted to check in and have a thread ready
just in the event I encounter issues or errors
I have never upgraded before, neither have I worked on such a large scale forum

*holds breath*

hwg...

Arantor

That's the install package, not the upgrade package. The upgrade package has the word 'upgrade' in the name...

anothen

oops,
did I download the wrong one, *whew*
I almost pressed the button...

brb...

thx

Kindred

also...   using the upgrade archive is not needed to go from 2.0.7 to 2.0.8

You can use the PATCH (which gets applied like a mod)

thx Kindred, I'm not ignoring you, I'm just already in progress
with the current procedure.
I'm not worried, I have a backup.

anothen

I haven't pressed the button yet,
should I not select overwrite?

Arantor

How about not doing that and installing the patch mod that would have you be done already.

anothen

Okay, that's fine with me,
the patch is on the same downloads page?
I don't see it...
please forgive my lack of experience.

Kindred

yes. you did find it...   Apply that like you would any other mod package

Alright, here's the file I downloaded...

smf_patch_2.0.8.zip  7kb

Now this is different than the procedure I have studied for.
From what I understand, all I need to do is upload it to the
Packages folder and install it as a package.

anothen

YAAY!!
That was quick and painless.

Thank you very very much.

anothen

oh, do I need to change the permissions back the
way they were?  I don't remember what they were.

Kindred

All files should be 644 and all directories 755
