hi.
i am finding a mod which password protects some boards.
so that everybody can see that board but no one can enter.
i think i have searched that mod on smf past ago,..but not able to find now.
please help me.
i am using 2.0.8 smf.

i am able to search : http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=106
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2873
but these are not compatible with 2.0.8

Ninja ZX-10RR

On the MOD site you will find many times written "compatible with 2.o etc..." but 99% of the times if a mod is compatible with a version of smf AFTER or INCLUDING the 2.0 you can try to install it and it will work in 99% of the cases. The second one in fact if you try to parse the instructions on how to install it manually it doesn't pop out any error nor it says that it is not being compatible.
Moral is: backup and try to install the second one, I bet it will be successful. :D
Oh, just in case you might need it directly from the FAQ: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/How_can_I_install_a_mod_that_doesn't_work_in_my_SMF_version let us know if that works. ;)

It's so powerful that on this post and even in the two PMs you sent me,you still answered my question very quickly and you're apologizing for the delay. You're the #1 support I've probably ever encountered man, so much respect for that. Thank you, and get better soon.

I'll keep this in my siggy for a while just to remind me that someone appreciated what I did while others didn't.

Already Ninja'd :P
EDIT: the post above has been deleted
Also I can add that the mod should work it installs with one error on my forum, error due to a little conflict with another mod but easily solvable :) so it *should* work fine.

One common complaint with password protected boards is that people share the password amongst themselves, meaning that people who shouldn't be able to get into a board sometimes become able to.

We generally recommend using member groups and permissions to handle such things instead.

ok you are saying member permissions,..
but i want to show that board to everyone,..just the difference is no one can enter without a pass  :-\
please help me  :'(

I'm curious. What benefit does password protecting it give you?

So what's wrong with this one?  http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2873

Alternatively this mod can be used to show boards while access to them is still controlled by membergroup rather than password  http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=610

Ninja ZX-10RR

That's for sure. Creating a membergroup and setting the proper permissions for it (also the board ones) will be way better. ;)
