I am aware of the Mod_Security should be off yes we are on a shared server as well and I got the song and dance ( and should go to level support 3) but why all of this now...? could we have been hit with a virus or Trojan of some sort

UGH....

LiroyvH

Nope. GoDaddy is known to have very poor performance... At total random.
You need to talk to them to resolve it. Your best bet would be to switch to a non-oversold host though, relieves you of all the pain and trouble.

A trojan/compromise of the site or something would cause different kinds of errors, not connection interruptions.
(Unless its your PC that's affected perhaps, instead of your site. :P)

Several other people have indicated something changed with GoDaddy on July 17th.

SMF hasn't changed anything - and you're several versions behind - but it makes me wonder if they changed the configuration somewhere that spontaneously broke everything.

iamarealbigdog

tried to do an update, perhaps to solve the problem, could not log in... to activate

set admin check to manual in the PHP but to no avail.

Likely need to get this resolved before upgrading

iamarealbigdog

Can I uninstall 2.02, reload with a fresh install with 2.08 and then copy over the member database???

just thinking....

Arantor

You'd be better using the 2.0.8 large upgrade package - see in the wiki under 'loading a fresh set of files'.

Trying to futz around with an import is a lot of pain you don't need.

iamarealbigdog

They are saying that there is a compromise and malware., we were hit with a Viagra advertisement on site somewhere, ended up buying a site-lock but they forgot to set it up... of course GD did not tell us we had to do it...

Now they are stating that they need to clean out the malware.. for $99.00

I hate computers.... UGH

Kindred

You can delete all files and directories other than Settings.php, settings_bak.php, attachments directory and avatar directory.  That should correct any actual malware. Then upload a fresh set of 2.0.8 files as instructed in the FAQ.

Is it being said that "SMF will not now work on Godaddy because of what happended on the 17th?"

has anyone deleted the whole thing and reinstalled and have it now working? without the mod security thingy being off or on

br360

SMF will work fine on Godaddy. No clue what they did on the 17th, and how many sites were effected, but the same thing happened to one of my sites.

You don't have to delete the whole thing; just upload a fresh set of files- http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/How_to_upload_a_fresh_set_of_files

It's actually a very easy thing to do, and takes a couple of minutes. Read the how to in the link above, and just make sure that you extract the package first on your computer, and then delete upgrade.php (and the .SQL files) before you upload it to your file manager or ftp.

iamarealbigdog

So GODADDY says that the malware that was removed had nothing to do with the FORUM issue so they refunded the $99 and are now leaving me out to dry....

So when I get home tonight I will try to solution noted above.

FIRST concern, my data is on 2.02 should I be installing 2.08 files ???

br360

There has been a lot of security patches from 2.0.2 to 2.0.8, so you really should have already upgraded to at least 2.0.6.

Take a look at this link and there you will see where to download the 2.0.2 upgrade- http://download.simplemachines.org/index.php?archive;version=68

Once you do that though, it would probably be a good idea to patch to newer versions. When doing it though, you can't skip versions; so you would need to do the 2.0.3 patch, then the 2.04 patch, etc. until you are at least at 2.0.6.

Hold up there a sec....

Do I have to do all the little patches or just the large upgrade package

Kindred

if you want to replace everything, use the large upgrade archive.

the patches are for "inline updates"

Thanks all

Will spend weekend upgrading to 2.08

After all done with will throw some $$ to the support group

br360

Good to see you got it worked out. In regards to spending the weekend upgrading to 2.0.8, it will honestly take less than 10 minutes to go through all the patches when you have the time. It's basically like downloading a mod and then uploading it through your package manager.

Here is a direct link to the patch downloads- http://custom.simplemachines.org/upgrades/
