Ignore topics?

Is there any way to ignore topics here? It would be useful in some cases xD thanks in advance
P.s. I know that there is an option to ignore a section but I don't want that, I want to ignore topics not sections.

No, there isn't. The Ignore Topics mod has performance issues and if you study the mod's thread you may find commentary and discussion as to why, along with a possible tweak that will solve it without performance issues but with some interesting side effects (from me )

LOL I saw xD bt it was like 4 years ago... Is it still in that awful state? If so, I think I will just uninstall it, also seeing the error it gets when the board reaches 100k posts for whatever reason... Plus... I was wondering... My forum is still little as my game has still to be released but... What do you think about this list? Will it be affecting server load too much or not?

The increase in load scales approximately linearly to (users x topics) in the worst cases. The hack I came up with, despite the side effects (which are largely due to lack of interest in fixing rather than technical issues) has much smaller load scaling artifacts, at least provided users don't ignore many, many topics.

But how to fix it? In the end you uploaded an attachment in one of those messages and that was some kind of mod preview... Was it some kind of a release? If so I will install it for sure.

And what about the other mods? Do you think that all those things will affect the loading time? If so, how much? As I don't really know.

No, it was not a mod release. It was a very nasty, very dirty abuse of the internals of SMF to produce a similar effect to ignoring topics by marking them read in a way that would ensure they would never be 'unread' at any point.

In a nutshell, the guts of SMF mark a topic's read status based on the id of the last message you read. If you brute-force that to the largest possible value it could safely be (2^31-1, about 2.1bn), you guarantee to not let it get read unless a user manually marks it unread.

There's some other stuff that has to be handled alongside it though that I never bothered with anything beyond the absolute essentials because it was a dirty way to fix the problem and relies on a concept of magic numbers that I'm not a fan of. But it worked without the headaches.

Honestly? If performance is a concern, install neither. My mod, such as it was, was unfinished and will have side effects like notifications being strange under some circumstances.

You do not install both under any circumstances, they are two different ways of doing the same job

Shoutboxes are always a pain on the system for performance. The rest... eh. There are bigger things that can be done which will help with performance in the long run.

I don't know who moved this to support but sorry this is not the correct section as I specifically asked for a function on this site and not on my own. There isn't even the topic moved there...
After that the discussion went on the ignore topics that is all related to server performance (even for this site, and probably it's because of that reason that we can't ignore topics) and it eventually drifted slightly but it is still a concern about this site and not my own. I asked about my own because Arantor said that this mod affects server load but only after that, not before. Anyway, thanks for the replies Arantor, let's say that I will know which mod to uninstall if I experience overloading troubles
