when trying to save settings in the admin panel, it takes multiple tries before the options stick.

i see nothing in the SMF error log though...

any ideas?

Version of SMF? Mods installed? What settings are you trying to change?

Also, what version of PHP does your server have? If you go to Admin > Main > Support and Credits, it will give you these version numbers.

Hrm, not quite what I expected to see.

So what settings are you trying to change that don't stick?

its almost "global"

it takes multiple attempts for things to save.... ill try to give more details as i see them (i know its happening in the admin panel)

i dont see any logs in smf to show you

what about from ubuntu?  anything there useful?

Arantor

All settings everywhere? Strange. I was hoping it would be specific to something rather than everywhere.

Also, in Admin > Configuration > Server Settings > Caching, what's that set to?

it says memcache is installed, but didnt give a version number from main -> support and credits...

maybe theres a bug there on the server or in SMF?

Arantor

If there's no version number, it's not using that.

As a temporary measure, try turning off caching and see if that helps.

I had a feeling it might. Seems that something is being very excitable about caching even though all the signs suggest otherwise.

I don't know. If you were using PHP 5.5, I'd point you to a discussion about that very situation for the next version of SMF, but you're not... I'm at something of a loss.

That said... once you've got the settings set you probably won't need to change them - and in all likelihood they were actually set the first time but you have to wait a short while (typically 90 seconds) for the changes to settings to show up. Caching is all about minimising load on a system by reusing existing work - including settings.
