ezPortal: 403 Forbidden - Access to this resource on the server is denied!

Hi everybody.

Need some help and advice. I'm sure this problem has probably already been addressed elsewhere but haven't found anything on this specific matter, so I am seeking advice. I am currently setting up my own forum and it runs on SMF 2.08. Among other mods and packages I have successfully installed ezPortal on it. Now, problem is, I wanted to add a few more HTML ezBlocks on my forum's main page (on the left and right columns) to display some news widgets and other stuff like that, such as weather and rss. The problem is, though all standard ezBlocks such as Stats, Users online, Recent topics etc etc do work, when I add one more ezBlock in the form of an HTML ezBlock, put some HTML code in it and save the ezBlock I get the above error: 403 Forbidden - Access to this resource on the server is denied! In other words it looks like I'm not able to add (save) an HTML ezBlock, with embedded HTML code in it, on my forum. I have looked around in the forum settings but so far haven't seen anything wrong with them.

From SMF error log the only things I have found relating to ezportal are:

http://www.xxxxxxx.net/index.php?action=admin;area=ezpblocks;sa=addblock2
8: Undefined index: saat
File: /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/Themes/default/languages/Admin.italian-utf8.php (body_above sub template - eval?)
Row: 292

or

http://www.xxxxxxx.net/index.php?action=admin;area=ezpblocks;sa=addblock;column=3
8: Undefined index: loading
File: /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/Themes/default/languages/EzPortal.english.php (body_above sub template - eval?)
Row 292

Any idea on what could be the problem and how to fix it? Thanks a lot for your help.  :)

Well, for one...  Try one block at a time...

It is ALL html that fails?  Or just specific stuff?
If specific, paste the html code here in a code block....

403 sounds like iT might be a host problem with mod_security...

Thanks for replying. It looks like ANY HTML code fails. I've tried several different codes to embed in a custom (HTML) ezBlock: in fact I've been looking around on the internet for different types of public widgets that can be incorporated in our own blogs/forum. One of those is one from the following gallery: http://www.widgipedia.com/widgets/gallery/ .Specifically, I've surfed different public sites where we can grab HTML code to display specific widgets such as weather reports, financial news, BBC breaking news, etc. All sort of stuff. But they ALL fail. Instead, pasting code in a block with tags <IMG.... to display local images from, say, a gallery folder, causes the image not being shown at all: all I can spot is a generic image icon in place of the due image, as if it was not found on the server ....

All other types of ezBlocks that I eventually add to my forum seem to work fine as they are correctly displayed on the page....

Also, as far as I can see, it doesn't seem to be a permissions related problem, as all folders under /public_html are 755 and files are all 644 ... at least those (few, under ezportal sub-folder) who might need to be writable.

More over, I do have SimplePortal mod installed as well and with this I can achieve what I want: widgets are displayed as expected and I'm not getting any error on block creation. I nevertheless prefer to use ezPortal to display widgets as this is more flexible and blocks appear as I want at the very edges of my forum page, while blocks from simplePortal are more innerly located on the page. In the end, the problem highlighted seems to be coming from ezPortal itself because, as a matter of facts, I'm not having any sort of problems with simpleportal.

I've never had such problems with ezPortal when the forum was running on SMF 1.11: I had tens of widgets of all sorts displayed on my forum and could easily add tons of them as to my like. Now I've been forced to redesign entirely the forum as the server has migrated to PHP 5.3/5.4 and my forum wasn't entirely compatible to it. Even a porting/migration of my platform to SMF 2.0.x didn't succeed and had problems, so I resorted to a fresh re-installation from scratch.... and am now experiencing this sort of problems....

Check out this post on mod_security http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Mod_security_-_Having_problems_with_mod_security

Thank you so much for the tip!!! It did work....
I have inserted the code detailed in that post into file .htaccess (which was emtpy) and managed to add an HTML ezBlock as I would have wanted without errors on the server side. Now everything seems fine...

Thank you again.... :)

Glad to know you have it working now. I dislike mod_security more than anything else seems to do more harm then good. Should't even be required if you have good scripts
