smf_session marked as crashed almost 10 times a day - Need permanent solution

Dear SMF Team,

I have been facing this issue for almost 10 times a day of smf_session is marked as crashed and atleast once , the server restarts itself.

Almost 5 years i have developed my smf forum in a linux dedicated server with 100 other sites. It had grown to 1 lakh post and daily 16,000 visitors to the site. So just wanted to improve the speed of the server, moved to windows dedicated server with only 6 other small sites in it. ( 15 mins avg online 250 )

I had running a windows dedicated server with 6 other small sites in it for last 18 months to improve the speed of the site and ranking.
( Intel Xeon Quad Core, 2.5GHz (8 threads), 250 Mbps Uplink, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, 1,000 GB RAID-1 Drives, 15 TB Bandwidth ).

Scenarios changed and there are loads of issue with smf_session, very often and google took my site to ground.
I had only 5000 visitors per day and there after 6 months faded in to 1200 visitors every day with 1.80 posts only. ( 15 mins average online 75 only )

My server company being number one in hosting and dedicated market , cannot find even one reason for server restarts for last 18 months.

So i have planned to move to a unique dedicated server and i did the same last week. Move my smf forum on a dedicated standard server with the same spec i mentioned above.

But same happens here but no of time is less, last 3-4 days i see restarts are only 5 - 6 times and site going offline only 3 times as Table '.\sitename_smf20beta3\smf_sessions' is marked as crashed and should be repaired

Now a days 300 visitors to our website with 1.80 lakh post and 2 lakh pages in google ( 15 mins average online 25 only to max 45 a day )

So we need permanent solution team for this issue, if there is no solution i have to go out of 7 years love with smf to another paid board.

Error in logs : last 3-4 days - 6070 errors

Disable database driven sessions or look into changing to a new server machine.

Dropping out of DB sessions is only wise if 1) no other sites are on the same machine (or it is *properly*) secured and 2) you're actually going to get a performance benefit out of it... not the case here.

Changing server is also unlikely to make a difference.

MyISAM tables such as the session table uses by default are prone to corruption for heavy use tables; the sessions table should be converted to InnoDB.

Ok team,

I forget to tell you.

Tried google cloud sql for 1 days , had only smf sql table in google cloud sql and site was loading form my old dedicated windows server .( tried two weeks back before going to a new dedicated server now )

The site was loading with 12.5 seconds delay for each load and repeated load 8 - 10 sec delay. ( as shown in load time on site footer ).

But if within same server i get the site loaded in 4 seconds 1st time and 2.5 seconds there after.

So vb gamer, what do you mean by disable db driven sessions., I see 500 - 600 records always in side smf_sessions table

Also Arantor, do you mean, i could simple change smf_session in to inno db just like that - are you sure , i dont want to stop the site even there are only 300 users online a day. Since once there problems are set, and also am good at seo for year. I would get my site on top results with in 6 months.

The entire server restarts or just mysql?
To disable database sessions uncheck this under server settings "Use database driven sessions"

The entire server gets restarted. And the shows smf_sessions marked crashed message both old dedicated box and new dedicated box with only this domain only.

Well that is bad issue you server shouldn't restart each day....You need to look at your forum error logs. I have windows servers and only restart them on windows updates

Anyone here in smf team to support to get rid of this issue.

Tried two dedicated windows server - standard ( configurations given above ).

The new dedicated windows server only runs smf forum.

Restart happens only after smf is live, if smf and db is disabled, no restarts.

Restart happens every one hour , only 10 % it was showing smf_sessions marked as crashed.

Kindly assist team.

Did you see anything in your event viewer? How is your CPU load? A server should not restart every hour.....
What is the windows server version?

Am regularly getting smf_sessions crashed very often, atleast weekly thrice with no error log or something.

do you have a host you can contact for support? if they will not help you then maybe time to look for a new host that will help you.

Thank you and if you have read my above post , i had moved 3 dedicated servers now with different hosting providers.

All 3 hosting company ,tried for 5 years now and they said this table crash is something to do with the script which am using. So they have asked some programmers to check since this is out of there support boundary.

SMF has nothing to do with tables crashing, that is a server side issue most of the time. you must have some really sucky hosts.

I have been running SMF for almost 10 years now - and I can count, on one hand, the number of times I had a crashed table.


So... if you are continually getting crashed tables, then - as Illori says - I am afraid you are going to have to blame your HOST(S) not SMF
