I know I can list members by date of their last access to the forum but is it possible to list members by the date of their last post?

Kindred

you would have to write a new query for that....

a fairly "expensive" query, for that matter - given that you'd have to JOIN the member table with the messages table (two of the potentially largest tables in the system)

Which could lead to performance and server issues, if I'm not mistaken.

Kindred

oh yes, indeed....

think about a forum with 21,000 users and 3 million posts....

I bet the web host would not be amused, too.

Not even that, you'd have to join the members table with the messages table without being able to use any sane index, meaning potentially you'd be starting with a Cartesian product join which is crazy hideous expensive.

Well that's a shame. I'd like to be able to prune my memberlist so those who haven't posted in years get dropped - or moved to a different category of membership. And I have a forum of around 500 members, 300,000 posts and about 100 members who haven't posted in 2-3 years. Not looking forward to going through them one by one  ;)
How do other people manage their memberships?

Kindred

Most of us don't concern ourselves with whether members are posters or lurkers....   Why does it matter?

Because I want to remove some of their privileges which may encourage them to post again.

Kindred

Sorry, all I have to say to that is...  Meh.

They will either post because they have something to say... Or not.

It's a bit more complicated than that but that's a whole separate issue :) . If it can't be done then it can't be done :D

If you do not mind manually deleting them, then this mod will help you:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1474

Install it, go to your memberlist, sort by last post... have fun.

timetraveller

That looks exactly what I'm after. I would be manually deleting them anyway :)
I notice the creator hasn't been around for a while though, so I will proceed with caution.
Thank you :D
