Just took over an old board

Hi;

I've recently taken over an old board that's running version 1.0.21.  It's grossly outdated but won't update.  The message I get is:

"The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF. "

I am not very technical and would really appreciate some help to get this board rolling again.
