[FREE] Anyone thought about imgur integration?

It would be extremely cool to have a mod integrating the cool imgur service into smf just like this one does for Tynipic, (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1862) since they became spamtards it would be way better to have imgur instead of Tynipic... This would save on the attachments folder size... ;)

EDIT: just contacted their support team too about this, let's see. It might be a big marketing choice for both...

It's so powerful that on this post and even in the two PMs you sent me,you still answered my question very quickly and you're apologizing for the delay. You're the #1 support I've probably ever encountered man, so much respect for that. Thank you, and get better soon.

I'll keep this in my siggy for a while just to remind me that someone appreciated what I did while others didn't.

I don't see it being too difficult to integrate into the attachments system. However, I highly doubt that it would become a standard feature considering it relies on a third-party API which can change over time. That is also the reason SMF has avoided social login integration in the past, especially since Facebook likes to change their API every few months.

The other problem, of course, is that concepts like privacy go out the window - you can keep images private within attachments or galleries - and you can't on TinyPic or Imgur. You can also rely on images not being deleted when they're attachments, unlike such services.

Imgur, in my experience, has been quite diligent about deleting images when requested. Usually takes up to 24 hours, but they do remove them. But as usual with the internet, once it's on the internet, removing it permanently is just impossible.

Sure - but that's what I'm getting at. Stuff uploaded to Imgur may not be permanently there. It can be deleted or otherwise made unavailable without a third party site's control over it.

Ninja ZX-10RR

Well if you just don't need to keep things private... ;) anyway I'm waiting for a reply by the imgur support team. I haven't received the confirmation email though so I might resend that... Idk...

If you don't need to keep things private, then just post to imgur and copy the link, done.

Good luck getting them onboard. Survey says unlikely.

Ninja ZX-10RR

I know how to do it but I just say it would be better the way Tynipic did.

Eh, I disagree. The likelihood of losing pictures drastically outweighs any perceived advantage to me.

Disk space is cheap anyway.

If the picture gets deleted off Imgur - either by the uploader or because it violates some terms and conditions - there's precisely squat you can do about it.

If you host the picture yourself, you have total control over such.

Ninja ZX-10RR

Ah well if the picture violates some imgur terms rest assured that it will be violating my terms as well so I would be the first to delete it ;)

Basically what I need is a forum in which you can post screenshots without using the space or Tynipic since they really became spamtards and if you don't use 2 adblockers there is no way that they won't spam you like hell :(

So you want to mooch off someone else's bandwidth and space? Looks *so* professional doing that.

Ninja ZX-10RR

They are there for that very purpose? They wouldn't be putting the IMG link otherwise -_-"

Not when you're trying to run a business with a forum and are obviously too cheap to use attachments yourself to handle it.

Ninja ZX-10RR

I'd rather keep them outside instead, as simple as that. That's why attachments are already disabled on my forum. It is even easier too see a big imgur plugin rather than clicking on attachments for a newbie, at least that's what my gaming forums experience taught me.

nope... it's much better, all around, to just use inline attachments or a media gallery mod which allows the user to upload and attach an inline image within the post screen, and then still retain control over all of your site images.

Am I rude if I say that I don't give a damn? I just posted it and I hope that someone will do it. Posting "no for me it would be better the way it already is" is just plain useless and considerably annoying after a while.
So if you have something USEFUL to say go for it, otherwise please stop commenting the thread if you are not going to help with it since to me, for the use I would be doing of it, it would be better and that's it.

yup... you are rude for saying that...

and I did not say "for me..."  I said -- "It is much better, all around" -- as in "for everyone"

you should know by now that anyone who requests a mod is going to have the request analyzed and, if it is not logical or if there is a better way than what was requested, it WILL get mentioned. (and no, this has nothing to do with you personally - Arantor and I would have said the same things to anyone making this request)

You have no rights to speak for everyone, you are SURELY not speaking for me. And you will never have the rights to do it, so if you have to say for everyone then next time say "for me and I THINK for everyone but ALWAYS except Ninja".

That is not a better way to handle it, it is just a different way to do it, that I already know and that I don't want to use (yes it's my problem, yes this is why I am requesting this)

I agree but the fact that it is not helpful remains there.

it's not "helpful" to you, because we are telling you that what you are asking for is not a great idea....  but it IS helpful in that we are telling everyone else who reads this thread that it is not a great idea - and there are better options.

and I never claimed to be speaking for you or even "for everyone". I stated that it is better all around - for everyone....   not speaking for anyone, making a blanket statement. There is a difference.   I am saying that your idea, while not a BAD idea is also not a GOOD idea because there are better ways to do it. Just because you don't agree or you still want the feature doesn't make your opinion that "imgur is better" a correct statement.

All the above is still YOUR opinion. It is not a great idea to YOU, not to me.
