You need to fill in a username. error

I installed smf then some mods like simple portal  etc. But suddenly I was not able to login to smf while filling up the username/password i get the error: You need to fill in a username. .
When i try to create a new user the page gets refreshed on agreement page and doesnt go beyond it. I searched for the issue and some said it was due to the .htaccess codes of the wordpress in my root directory which was overridding the subdirectory of my forum.

i tried all the things but still i face the same issue. I even reinstalled a fresh smf but still the problem persist.
Please help.
I have tried even deleting htacess files from all folders but the problem is not solved.

which version of SMF are you using?

I am using smf 2.0.9 . Sorry i was not able to remove the topic from the board, it can be moved by admin i guess
