How would I link to the last post in a thread without having the message number or #new in the link?

Unless you resort to either a URL sortener, or the usual http://www.simplemachines.org thingy, I don't think you can.

I'm sure my stalker will correct me, if I'm wrong. ;)

margarett

Well, you can't :P How would you do it, then?

Me? I wouldn't bother, myself. I'd just post the link, as-is.

I s'pose some hack, like ******ed-upPrettyURLs would do it, wouldn't it?

...because? ...where?

Steve

I have a bunch of topics in one of my boards and a pinned topic that contains an alphabetized list of links to those topics. Just putting the topic ID in the link takes the person to the first post but I'd like for it to take them to the last post, whether it's new to them or not.

Then you'll have to build a database query to do it, there's no other way to do it.

There is a way to do it in 2.0, unknown if it still works in 2.1.

index.php?topic=12345.from2000000000#new

It's an interesting abuse of an internal feature of SMF that pretty much only I remembered was there but I didn't know if it would work in the way I'd hoped. The #new is essential.

Steve

You da man! Works perfectly. Thanks Arantor! :D

Well I never did...

Actually, I might've done.

Possibly.

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

No, not even then. You should ask Justyne sometime about this. ;D
