Problem:  I just moved my site to another url. I'm having login problems. It seems that the cookie isn't being set. It appears in the address line:
http://www.the3006cafe.org/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=f454xxxxxxx

I have run "repair", and made sure that all the folders and files are set to 777. If I don't log out, just close the browzer, and restart I stay logged in. Otherwise I need to clear cookies, files and history and type in the url and it will log me in. But again the cookie appears in the address line.

It is a closed/invite board, no guest browzering. Any body run into this before?

That is php session ID, not cookie. If your all members are having cookie/login problems, try rename cookie, use dadatabse driven sessions and make sure you are not using local or subdomain  cookies. These settings are in admin panel.

I can see it just fine.  :)

Thanks Owdy,

You saw it because I turned guest on before I went to bed. It's back to login screen.

Yes all members are having the problem.

Rename cookie? using what is set in admin. how do you rename, change this "SMFCookie10" or in the php file. (I have an editor)

I DID set the option to "Use subdomain independent cookies". Why you ask? Well my host, that I added the domain name to my existing account, handled it like a "sub domain" in the folder structure and pointing the name to that folder. Namely public_html/domain name. This seems to have helped some but I still have to clear cookies, files and history to get back in if I log out, (I have 2 accounts, admin and regular user)

But I NEVER had the session id in the address before, but I have it now.

UPDATE:
I wrote the above in a different window, logged in to my site as admin and sitting at the view board. I went made some breakfast, returned, and clicked "admin". I was returned to the login panel, when putting in name and pass it was rejected. So, as I said if I clear all settings and restart it prolly will let me back in.

still need help with this!

Admin -> server settings -> cookie name.

You need subdomain cookies if you use forum like this:
main site: http://www.example.com

No I'm using a new domain not a sub domain. But I have one account, with two domain names. The host points the second domain name similar in folder structure as a sub domain, ie: public_html/new domain name/. The problem seems only with IE. FireFox is fine. I just edited the .htaccess file to include the turn off mod_filtering. Have yet started up IE to try it out.

Thanks for the help guys, you are great. I'll post the results in a few minutes.

UPDATE!!
The htaccess fix seems to have cleared up the problem in IE.
Again thanks guys. ;D ;D ;D
