OK, we have a fix for you.

Please open Sources/Subs-Post.php and find:
$htmlfunc = create_function('$m', 'return \'
\' . strtr(un_htmlspecialchars("$m[1]"), array("\n" => \'\', \' \' => \' \', \'[\' => \'[\', \']\' => \']\')) . \'
\';');
(Line 239 on a clean file)
Replace with:
$htmlfunc = create_function('$m', 'return \'
\' . strtr(un_htmlspecialchars("$m[1]"), array("\n" => \'\', \'  \' => \' \', \'[\' => \'[\', \']\' => \']\')) . \'
\';');

Worked perfectly

Thanks a lot, Greatly Appreciated

One more question - How to allow members to use this function

Thanks & Best Regards

kat

Members can't use HTML due to the security risks.

If you search "embed" on the mod site, you might get lucky. :)

Kindred

you can not. EVER.

using the HTML BBC is basically a security risk - which is why only the admin can ever do it.

ninja'd...

the mod site probably won't help though....  unless you have a SPECIFIC player site (like youtube) in mind. If so, then I suggest SAVE or AEVA

what I am looking is to embed - FlashX, FastVideo, Streamin, Played.to embed links

Would SAVE mod work with played.to? I think the best thing would be a video embed script that scrapes posts for recognized video urls and automatically converts them to their embedded form on post for example. In the admin panel there should be modules, so as more services are supported --- admin can support other video hosts.

that's pretty much exactly what SAVE does...
(it was based on the performance of AEVA - before AEVA became unsupported - and recently was removed entirely)

As for the name...   take it up with the mod authors..

For the record it was originally called AEMP, Auto Embed Music Player but the author of AEVA (Auto Embed Video/Audio) complained so it was changed.

This YOU can do as admin (and other admins as well, of course)

To grant this permission to other users (which is a *terrible* security risk) there is:
this MOD http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=411 (not compatible with 2.0 but in its support topic there are successful tricks to make that happen)
and this MOD http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3034

Again, that's a BAD idea.

I said I'd shut it now but I can't.

Who is this guy that comes swooping in here like some avenging angel acting like he can fix everyone's problems and acting like a friend to people who don't know him from Adam? (And, in one case, insinuating he could help someone if given some login details.)

@ austin ... dude, you need to slow down and let people get to know you. You're not making any friends with the staff here that I can see by stating that your solutions are the best way to do things (note that I said stating, not suggesting) which you've been called on in a couple of cases already ... oh wait, you were sleepy, I forgot, that makes it okay ... at any rate, usually all legitimate help is appreciated but it would be nice to see it as helpful advice instead of pontification.

Austin,

It's not that we have a problem with "expressing your opinions" -- it is the WAY that you have gone about it...

You have pretty much insulted (either directly or sideways) -- mod authors, several staff members, and at least one former developer of the project.

If you actually want people to pay attention to you, then you don't start off in a new community by pretty much insisting that everything you say is the gospel and everyone else is wrong or stupid.

Quote from: austin.bollinger on January 28, 2015, 10:05:56 AM
For expressing my opinions here, I am going to get people irritated. I know this, that is how communities generally are.
Nope... that's NOT how communities generally are.   If they act that way toward YOU, when you join, then perhaps you should start taking a look at YOURSELF as the possible root of the issue.

Rather than people around here posting an acronym that no one is ever going to find... post the actual link to the plugin, eh?
Or maybe someone was posting from a mobile device and did not have the link handy?
Or maybe we expect users to take some initiative in helping themselves?

If you're referring to my use of the word 'pontification':

Quotepon·tif·i·cate
verb
verb: pontificate; 3rd person present: pontificates; past tense: pontificated; past participle: pontificated; gerund or present participle: pontificating
pänˈtifiˌkāt/

    1. (in the Roman Catholic Church) officiate as bishop, especially at Mass.
    2. express one's opinions in a way considered annoyingly pompous and dogmatic.

Note the second definition. And since Kindred has weighed in, I will definitely bow out now.

We do have quite high standards around here in terms of development and security and if I'm honest I don't think I've seen anything that suggests a strong correlation yet. :(

just in case anyone is wondering why the thread seems to be completely offtopic discussion...
austin.bollinger posted some things. We responded. He got offended and deleted his posts.
Since those posts were part of a conversation, they were restored....
he then came back and edited all of his posts like a child throwing a tantrum...

Oh! I was wondering if it a security risk why is WP allowing it and so many others, I hope that when an upgrade is done this function is added and the admin allowed to grant permission to a certain member group (whom he/she can trust) only.

Is that possible?

Kindred

No. Never.

We would never allow such a security hole to be present, even IFNYOU feel that users are trusted, someone would misuse it and get hacked.

As we have already said....  There are half a dozen YouTube embed mods and the simple audio video embed mod to handle specific sites embedding.

OK, we have a fix for you.

Hi guys, I would also like to be able to use iframes to embed videos on my forum and couldn't get it to work. I found this topic and tried the recommended fix (I couldn't see a difference in the find/replace codes), but I did it and there's no change.

My iframe link is enclosed in [...] html tags (image attached), but all I get is an empty box where the video should appear. Can you tell what I'm doing wrong?  It's here: http://speakingofseth.com/index.php?topic=83.0

I don't know much about embedding like that but I'd try taking the 's' out https ...

There are a number of mods for embedding youtube videos that are much safer than using html.

The one I use is:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2681

Btw, the difference in the two codes you mentioned is a single character if I remember correctly.

Thanks, I took out the "s" and it didn't help. I had just copied the embed code directly from YouTube.

I'll take a look at the mod you suggest. I don't want to add very many mods, I like to keep things lightweight and simple, but if it's the only way to go I may need to break down and use it.

BTW is there something funny going on with the db server at SMF? I've been having trouble this morning getting pages to load, searches to work, getting posted (retry 2-3x). If not, maybe my ISP is having problems AGAIN.
