Ah ha!!!!!!!!    You changed hosts...   Did you fully reconfigure smf to use the new host?

Based on your symptoms, I am actually betting that something is still pointing toward your old server..

and - Herman's Mixen i already use that repair_settings.php? thanks

Kindred

you restored the database from an old backup though...       and your symptoms (making changes on your current site don't seem to take effect) suggest that something is pointing to other places, other than the correct, current locations

you need to USE and SAVE repair_settings.php (possibly running it twice, the first time to correct the database, the second to correct the paths)

For me, repair_settings.php does not change ALL references to paths and URLs.   I have found that I needed to hunt around all admin settings looking for "old looking" directories and URLs and updating them.   Repair_settings rapidly gets you so you CAN do the rest by hand.

You may need to manually crawl thru all your admin menus and submenus looking for paths/URLs to fully restore your site.

repair_settings.php does not fix the URL's for you, you have to click on the new url to replace the old and then save the page/script and it will repair the URL's for you.

URLs are all on and correct.

Understood.   My point is that it is incomplete.

The obvious exceptions include mod settings.

It also misses many standard SMF settings.   You MUST audit all of your admin settings even after running repair_settings.php to properly relocate your site.

shawn,

actually, you are incorrect. repair_settings.php WILL update all of the CORE settings for SMF/default installation.
